The History of the Church

To be continued......
The church of St. Mary & St. Milburgh stands on a Saxon site and has a Norman tower.  The building is Grade II* listed and was largely rebuilt in 1860 by Frederick Preedy who was also responsible for the beautiful stained glass. The church is built of stone in the decorated style and is situated in the village’s conservation area which has several listed buildings including the manor house and cottages, farms, and the Maypole.  Although the church is not very visible from the newer developments in the village, the tower can clearly be seen from the other side of the river, and from the Windmill Hill nature reserve on the eastern edge.
